From St. Louis, it’s 2 hours and 32 minutes to one of my favorite Midwest brewery’s, DESTIHL.
Destihl is, how should I say this… expanding quickly. Earlier this year they announced an expansion to the west coast, starting with the San Diego market. Now, what can we expect from them in 2020?
A New Look
Destihl will be changing the packaging format for its popular Wild Sour Series. Here Gose Nothin, Synchopathic Dry Hopped Sour, and Flanders Red will be changing from 4pk, 12oz cans to 6pk, 12oz cans. Consumers can anticipate a small price increase of approx $1 per unit for an estimated retail of $10.99. Wild Sour Seasonals will remains in 4pks at a $9.99 retail. 12pk variety pack price points will also reduce to $19.99 in 2020.
On that note, look for two new Wild Sour Seris seasonals as well. Expect Key Lime Pie Gose and Triple Berry releases in the second half of 2020.
New Releases
Expect four limited release sours in 2020. The idea behind this series is to brew one 120 bbl batch of an experimental recipe. This is a great way for them to test market new recipes and get feedback from the market to determine possible future releases. The four releases from 2019 year led to the additions of Key Lime Pie Gose and Triple Berry to the 2020 calendar.
First Releases
The first 2020 release, Wild Sour Series Apricot hits shelves in January. Extended Jam, from the Deadhead series, will be released in February.
New location at ‘Carle at The Fields’ in southwest Champaign
Perhaps the biggest news for DESTIHL is the planned relocation of their brewery and taproom in Champaign, Illinois. The plan is to build a new, stand-alone location at the âCarle at The Fieldsâ 210-acre development in southwest Champaign. Construction will begin in Spring 2020 with an opening slated for Fall.
âOur brewpubs in Normal and Champaign, along with our new Production Brewery & Beer Hall in Normal, have become culinary & artisanal beer destinations, and this awesome, new location at the Fields will raise the bar again for our team, for our guests, and for the community for years to come,” said DESTIHLâs Founder and CEO, Matt Potts (a University of Illinois alumnus).
