Charleville Brewing is making all the proper adjustments in this new world we live in, but also making new beer at the same time.
This week, Charleville announced they are offering beer delivery and to-go curbside services, along with the release of a new brew, DDH Dodging Turtles Hazy Pale Ale.
The Beer
Charleville had always wanted to try a Hazy IPA. After their first attempt, the brewers decided to change the yeast and hops and move towards a lower ABV, 5%. The hop varieties on this batch work well together. Wakatu, Kohatu, Citra, and Enigma giving it a very juicy combination of flavors including lime, pineapple, and berry.
The Name
If you have never been to the Charleville Winery in Ste. Genevieve, it is a wonderous drive. Rolling hills and country roads. The beer’s name comes from the springtime return of turtles trying to cross the roads to sun themselves and warm up. If you’re behind the wheel, well, you have to dodge ’em.
The Lable Art
The label had to be thrown together on the fly. Originally, Dodging Turtles was supposed to be draft only since these beers are so expensive to make, but due to COVID-19 and the taproom being shut down, Charleville decided to can and label the beer for to-go sales. Owner Tait Russell put the design together in about an hour.
“I wish we could have kept with the theme of our other beers, but we couldn’t spend the money on proper design,” said Russell. Again, this is a new world.
How to get Dodging Turtles
Delivery is available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. You can place orders no later than noon of the delivery day desired. Your beer will be delivered to your lobby or porch. Please have your ID ready to show through your door or window please, and payments can be made over the phone prior to delivery. Deliveries can be made within the I-270 belt. There will be a $20 minimum purchase, plus a $5.00 service charge.
Curbside pickup at the brewery will also be available.
