Since opening their long-awaited brewery, the team at Rockwell has wowed me. Not only do I dig their beer, their tap room, their beer can artwork, but I dig their digging down and presenting the beer lover with perhaps some of the best food options around. Their partnership with along Gerard Craft and the creation of brassWELL, featuring burgers, brats, and beignets to pair with Rockwell’s beers, has been a revelation.
Now, Rockwell is branching out again, and I’m very excited.
Today I learned the team behind one of my favorite cocktail bars, Yellowbelly (4659 Lindell Blvd), and Rockwell Brewing are partnering to create a new beer. The Yellowbelly Pale Lager (5.2% ABV) will be available in 16-ounce cans at both Yellowbelly, as well their sister bar, Retreat Gastropub (6 N Sarah St).
The beer is on tap right now at Rockwell. Yellowbelly will celebrate the beer with a Summer Luau Patio Party on Thursday, June 6.
The new beer showcases a friendship of two groups of young hospitality entrepreneurs coming together. On Point Hospitality’s co-owner Tim Wiggins explains, “We’ve been friends with Andy and the team at Rockwell for some time. We’re both trying to do something different with our establishments that provide fun and energetic environments for St. Louis. It’s cool to see friendship evolve into something tangible with this beer.”
The Rockwell team brewed the Yellowbelly Pale Lager with the restaurant’s seafood-forward menu in mind. The lager features Motueka and Wakatu hops from New Zealand, which provides clean bright citrus notes.
The can showcases Yellowbelly’s beach-inspired branding with the restaurant’s signature yellow and surfer girl. To celebrate summer and the release of the beer, Yellowbelly will host a Summer Luau on their outdoor patio with beers, outdoor grill and more for one night only on Thursday, June 6. Co-owner Travis Howard explains, “It feels like summer every day at Yellowbelly so we wanted to celebrate this exciting collaboration on our new patio. We’ll be breaking out our Japanese yakitori grill to do some fun skewers on the patio, and we’ll have leis, baby pools full of the beer, and more.”
