New brewery and taproom, new Foeders and sours = new everything for Alpha in 2018

It’s time to look ahead to what we’ll be pouring, sipping and loving in 2018.  I’ve reached out to a few of our town’s best brewers to see what we can expect from them in the next Year of Beer.

2018, will mark a turning point in the south St. Louis city beer scene for sure, as yet another brewery will call it home.

What We Can Expect In 2018
Plans are in place for Alpha Brewing Company to open their new, and much larger location at Morgan and Fyler in Tower Grove South in mid-to-late February.

“The expansion will allow us to increase our capacity at least tenfold and expand our presence in St. Louis through additional production capacity for keg sales. We will also be able to host larger events in the brewery space and our Biergarten,” said Derrick Langeneckert.  “Alpha is excited to become a big part of the Tower Grove South neighborhood with a number of community involvement activities still in the works.”

The new location will also allow Alpha to bring some tasty grub to their customers.  “When expanding, we knew the addition of great food to pair with our flavorful beer was paramount. We are very excited to be working with Mandy Estrella of Plantain Girl and her menu for the Alpha-Teria on site.”

Also arriving will be two new oak Foeders, from FoederCrafters, which will allow for Alpha to expand their fruited sours. “We will finally have space and capacity to truly get some great beers out in a quantity that we aren’t running out on tap in a few days,” said Langeneckert.  “These amazing vessels will allow us to produce a regular rotation of sour and funky beers using a technique called the solera method. As a biochemist by background, I am excited that our beers will also have greater consistency with the addition of a small yeast lab on premises where we can culture on site.”

The new space will also allow Langeneckert to amass a larger contingent of barrels to diversify and expand his sour and barrel aged beer lineup. In addition, Alpha plans on bringing its first cider to the taproom sometime in 2018.

“It’s something we always wanted to make, we just didn’t have the capacity before. Look for that cider to be crisp, dry, and fruity.”

New Releases
Alpha’s first release of 2018 will be a white guava Brett beer.  It’s pouring a hazy pinkish in color and on the nose, it gives a funk with some guava spice.  On the tongue, you’ll get a beer with plenty of tart and lots of fruit.  White Guava Brett was aged for 9 months in stainless steel. Expect this hazy pinkish tart beer to pull you into Alpha’s sour lineup with a tart and fruity kick.

“My wife and I live in Tower Grove, so we know firsthand how great of a neighborhood it is,” said Langeneckert.  “Alpha is excited to become a part of the community and bring vibrant new flavors (beer and food) to the community. We also plan to be heavily involved in local social activities and charity events (details to come very soon).
