As local breweries continue to pump out new and unique beers almost weekly, it is hard to keep up with all the delicious offerings. And it’s even harder to remember that there is an entire subsection of beer being put out that isn’t as publically available but equally worth your consideration. Home brewers are making incredible beer and now you have the chance to try a lot of it.
Home brewers no longer allow the confines of their garages and basements to limit them in putting forth their art. Public home brewing events are becoming more frequent and more popular with the local beer consuming public.
One of the biggest such events in our area is returning this August for it’s third year. Nine home brew clubs from the St. Louis area will be featured at the third annual Brew Fest at Ballpark Village. The event, sponsored by Budweiser, will be held in the Beer Garden of the Budweiser Brew House on August 20th, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Over 100 beers will be available to sample, including many one-time-only recipes. Guests can talk to the brewers and learn their secrets, and find out what it takes to home brew from the home brew shops in attendance.
The brewers will be in competition for brewing the best Oktoberfest-Style Beer, with the Champion announced at the Brew Fest. The winning beer will be brewed in the Research and Pilot Brewery at Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis. Last year’s champion was Jeff Michalski for his ESB (Extra Special Bitter).
The Brew Fest includes music by Kim Massie, and a pig roast.
