Like any movie franchise, you always want to leave your audience wanting more, thus the beauty of the cliffhanger.
In our last episode Captain America and the rest of Team Cap were enjoying happy hour in St. Louis enjoying our perfect beer pairings for each of them.
If Team Captain America had time for happy hour in STL, here’s what they’d drink
Some are saying (okay, no one is saying this) that our beer pairings are what is driving Captain America: Civil War to remain the number one movie for the second week in a row. But even with millions still flocking to the theaters, they will will not find answers all America is seeking.
So let’s not leave you hanging any longer. Let’s get to Part 2:
Team: Iron Man
The Vision
No real surprise The Vision is a member of Team Iron Man. He probably has a soft spot for Tony Stark, who originally created him as J.A.R.V.I.S, the voice and brain program which ran much of Tony’s life in the early films before taking on a synthetic body in Captain America: Ultron. The Vision is figurative conscience of the Avengers, watching the team endlessly and offering advice and counsel even when not requested.
The Observer | Old Bakery Brewing Company
ABV: 5.3%
IBU: 35
This beer was originally brewed in partnership between Alton based Old Bakery Brewing and Elijah P.’s Burgers & Brews. Named after Elijah P. Lovejoy’s Alton-based abolitionist newspaper) is an American Amber Ale generously dry-hopped with Simcoe, Chinook, and Cascade hops.
It’s lightly malty and nutty with a pungent bouquet of pine and citrus aroma. The Observer pairs really well with a pub burger.
War Machine
This was a no brainer for anyone who has followed the friendship between Col. James Rhodes and Tony Stark dating back to the original Iron Man film. War Machine became an Avenger in the battle of Sokovia, in Captain America: Age of Ultron, which of course leads to the split among the team, with Rhodes sticking with best bud.
War Hammer | 4 Hands Brewing Company
APV: 9%
IBU: 83
Columbus Tomahawk Zeus is the primary hop variety in War Hammer as well as the inspiration in the name. They use a combination of Pacific Northwest hops to create layers of pungent flavors.
A generous malt bill adds biscuit and honey notes while allowing the hops to take center stage. War Hammer pours golden in color with aromas of pineapple, mango, tangerine, resin, and slight earthy notes. Drink Fresh!
Black Widow
Black Widow — better known as Natasha Romanova — in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is an ass kicking super hero lacking one thing: super powers. A martial experts expert, Widow is at her best when she is taking apart rival after rival with her chops, kicks and flips. Widow is a superhero, no doubt, but in a more non-traditional way, much liket the beer we’re pairing her with.
Serrano Sidekick | Crown Valley Brewing
APV: 6.5 %
IBU: 63
Serrano Sidekick is a fresh hopped American Pale Ale with a slight aroma of Serrano peppers and light heat. Like Black Widow, it provides a punch, but in a much nicer way. Unlike other spicy beers, this one is not severe and won’t wreck your appetite. Well balanced and well crafted. You’ll enjoy this one.
Black Panther
Black Panther (T’ChAlla) has a personal vendetta against Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s best friend. T’Challa is out to get his revenge on Barnes because he believes the Winter Soldier killed his father in a terrorist attack. This would explain why Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) hates the Winter Soldier so much and why he decides to side with Iron Man in the movie.
Man In Black | Heavy Riff Brewing
ABV: 7.0%
IBU: 70.0
This Rye IPA is a dark and decidedly hoppy brew made with all Galaxy hops. Done in collaboration with Charleville Brewing! This should please any and all hop lovers as this rich, thick, yet very smooth and drinkable beer is suited for you.
Spider Man
Recruited by Tony Stark, Peter Parker is a young teenage Spider Man, just beginning to understand his super powers. The quick moving, wisecracking Spider Man pledges his allegience to his new mentor, but shows a good natured respect for his new enemies, of which he respects and just feels “cool” to just be around much less fighting against.
Jumping Frog | Mark Twain Brewing
ABV: 6.5%
IBU: 85
This American-Style India Pale Ale is a shining example of a West Coast IPA. Significantly hop-forward, with Cascade and Centennial lending heavy notes of citrus, especially grapefruit.
Bitterness is sharp but does not linger, making it well balanced and refreshing.
Iron Man
Talk about stress. When the world comes calling with new laws after the devastation the team wrought in “The Age of Ultron,” the Avengers split over what to do, with half agreeing with Tony Stark that it’s time the Avengers play ball and accept the rules of the world. Tony, spends the film sticking to his point of view while trying convince Captain America to live by the rules, knowing if he doesn’t the team will never survive. Up to now, Tony Stark has been the team’s biggest drinker and although he has been a scotch man since the original Iron Man film, we feel there is only one beer suitable for his mission at trying to keep the peace.
Angle And The Sword | Civil Life Brewing
ABV: 4.6%
IBU: 32
My favorite St. Louis beer has to go to my favorite Avenger. Yes, it may seem like an odd name for a peace offering, but it really is a beer of peace. This beer literally is a blending of cultures, as this is beer that is a departure from true-to-style brewing, but rather is made with a little bit of everything Civil Life has learned into this uniquely inclusive expression. Biscuity and bittersweet, familiar and unfamiliar, way more going on than its light color and alcohol content would suggest. Let us raise our goblets to the sky in one accord.
I love Robert. I think if real Ironman exists he will be same as him.
