If you’re a fan of Perennial Artisan Ales as well as coffee stouts, here’s some news for you. Perennial is releasing this year’s Sump Coffee Stout on Saturday.
Perennial releasing Sump Coffee Stout with a new look
I’ve openly said I love me a good coffee stout, and lucky for me many are made right here in St. Louis, including one of the best I’ve ever had, Sump Coffee Stout from Perennial.
The annual collaboration between the brewery and the south St. Louis coffeehouse, Sump Coffee and its owner, Scott Carey is one I look forward to every year. The imperial stout is made from coffee grown in the Monte Alban region of Oaxaca, Mexico â and roasted in Saint Louis by Carey. The base stout is smooth and chocolatey, complemented by notes of pecan, toffee, pear, and vanilla. Sweet and bitter are balanced against each other, swirling around the full-bodied stout base to create a powerfully rich, yet amazingly crisp drinking experience. 11.5% ABV.
This year’s variant brings together beans from El Salvador and Ethiopia. The beans are roasted and “united.” The effect is said to give the beer a “punchy riff.” You’ll get some vanilla, graham cracker and red berries mingled in with the stout base. Chocolate is less pronounced but the earthy, woody foundation stands resolute. The beer finishes with a kiss of brightness from the brief impression of anise liquor and cold apple wedges. 11.5% ABV.
New this year, Sump Coffee Stout will be available in 16oz cans. 2 packs of both regular and variant will be sold to-go at the brewery and on Square for $14 each, starting Saturday, January 16.
