Millpond releasing new NEIPA ‘Freestyle Walking.’
If you have not made your way to Millstadt, Illinois to try the beer offerings of Millpond Brewing and Incubator , perhaps their newest offering will be what pulls you in.
As I’ve said repeatedly, I’m a huge fan of New England IPAs, and believe it or not, St. Louis brewed Hazy IPAs are making a mark. I’ve was particularly impressed with Millpond’s release earlier this summer of Help Others (ABV 7%). This beer brought notes of big juicy ripe pineapple chunks, along with gooseberry and citrus, plus hints of pine. It is double dry-hopped with Cardinal and Sultana hops.
Now, Millpond is back with another NEIPA release, Freestyle Walking (7.0% ABV). Freestyle Walking is available today on draft, and in 4-packs to-go available on Friday.
For this beer, Millpond used their go-to NEIPA malt bill and then double dry-hopped it with a substantial amount of Cashmere, and equal parts of Amarillo and Nelson Sauvin hops. On the tongue, you’ll get notes initially of tangerine, tropical fruits, and melon, with white wine in the finish.
I’m planning to do a side-by-side session with both Help Others and Freestyle Walking, as well as beer mixing. I’m interested to see how the pineapple and tangerine might blend together. I’ll let you know how it goes.
