Big week of releases for Perennial Artisan Ales (8125 Michigan Ave, 314.631.7300).
Today the brewery announced it was releasing its 2016 Barrel Aged Vermilion on Thursday, December 29th. Â Bottles will be made available at the brewery beginning at 4 p.m. Â Tap drinkers can get a taste starting at 6 p.m.
The Vermilion is an English-style barleywine that is aged in a Rittenhouse Rye Barrels for one year.
What is Barleyine?
Barleywine can be sweet like a wine, but it is not wine. It is very much a beer. Â In fact it is a pretty intense and strong beer and dare I say may not be everyone’s “cup of tea.” Â Barleywine can be fruity too, but one thing it will always be is high in alcohol.
More on Rittenhouse
Rittenhouse Rye is made a the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky.  In 2006, the Rittenhouse 100 Proof Bottled-in-Bond Straight Rye was named North American Whiskey of the Year at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. A great honor, especially since it sells for under $20.
