Schlafly releasing new brew for Cinco de Mayo

May 5th is officially Cinco de Mayo, one of Mexico’s biggest holidays commemorating the defeat of Napoleon’s French army by a small Mexican force at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

In the US it’s basically a cultural celebration and another great opportunity to drink beer. So, let’s get to it.

Schlafly Beer is marking the day with the launch of its limited-edition, brewpub-only Mexican Lager release, ¡Yo Quiero Cerveza! at its Maplewood location, Schlafly Bottleworks, this Friday, May 5, from 6 – 9 p.m. with a ¡Yo Quiero Cerveza! Party. Guests can take home a free pint glass with any purchase, try the ¡Yo Quiero Cerveza!, enjoy live music, games, and food specials including chips, salsa, and tacos.

The Beer

This 5.1% ABV brew is Schlafly’s interpretation of the easy-drinking lagers from south of the border. This Mexican Lager is amber in color with a toasty malt-forward flavor and well-balanced hop character. Crisp, clean, and smooth, this beer pairs well with a burrito doused in fire sauce.

The label for this beer represents a “new look” for Schlafly packaging. Designed by local artist, Bri Durawski of Quiet One Creative, the label features a chihuahua embodying the ¡Yo Quiero Cerveza! mood by looking adamant about wanting a beer.
