Big week of releases for Perennial Artisan Ales (8125 Michigan Ave, 314.631.7300).
Today the brewery announced it was releasing its 2016 Barrel Aged Vermilion on Thursday, December 29th. Bottles will be made available at the brewery beginning at 4 p.m. Tap drinkers can get a taste starting at 6 p.m.
The Vermilion is an English-style barleywine that is aged in a Rittenhouse Rye Barrels for one year.
What is Barleyine?
Barleywine can be sweet like a wine, but it is not wine. It is very much a beer. In fact it is a pretty intense and strong beer and dare I say may not be everyone’s “cup of tea.” Barleywine can be fruity too, but one thing it will always be is high in alcohol.
More on Rittenhouse
Rittenhouse Rye is made a the Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2006, the Rittenhouse 100 Proof Bottled-in-Bond Straight Rye was named North American Whiskey of the Year at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. A great honor, especially since it sells for under $20.
