Local beer to be highlighted at new Alamo Drafthouse

When the City Foundry originally opened last year, I had very high hopes that local breweries and distilleries would be highlighted, as I’ve seen at other similar operations around the country. I still harbor a dream of opening my own pour bar like I found in Columbus, Ohio.

That said, The Kitchen Bar, which is operated by the local Niche Food Group, does offer local and regional beer, cider, seltzer, and cocktail, but I think we need more. I’m now hopeful that the new Alamo Drafthouse which plans to open next month will up the game.

The new theater is the first St. Louis location for the Austin-based cinema.

“When we sought out tenants for City Foundry STL, we focused on both local and new-to-the-market experiences. Alamo Drafthouse was one of the first tenants that we announced to be a part of our community, and we’re thrilled to introduce St. Louis to the new and unique movie-going experience this November,” says Will Smith, managing director at New + Found.

Every Alamo Drafthouse location has a theme and Alamo Drafthouse City Foundry is no exception, taking on the theme of absurdist comedy. With construction nearing completion, the theater’s interior will showcase this genre of film with multiple interactive elements placed throughout the space, including a scavenger hunt. The bar at Alamo Drafthouse City Foundry is called “The Meaning of Bar” and will offer specialty cocktails created around the absurdist comedy theme as well as a selection of beer from local breweries, wine, and spirits.

As of this writing, the list of which local breweries and distilleries has not been announced, but as soon as that information becomes available, I will let you know.

The Food

The St. Louis location will also tout a scratch-made menu featuring burgers, pizzas, salads, snacks, and desserts prepared fresh from locally sourced ingredients, as well as St. Louis specialties such as gooey butter cake and toasted ravioli. The space, totaling 45,000 square feet, will offer 10 screens with over 930 luxury recliner seats, and every auditorium is equipped with top-of-the-line digital 4K projection and dynamic surround sound.

The Screens

For audiences who are looking to enjoy the theater’s biggest screen, the location plans to include The Big Show, a PLF (Premium Large Format) curved screen measuring at least 66 feet wide equipped with Dolby Atmos sound, recliner chairs, and additional legroom for the optimal viewing experience. The new theater will also continue the cinema chain’s commitment to preserving movies on film, thanks to a 35mm projector installed, allowing original screenings of both classic and contemporary movies in original celluloid.
