Maplewood, Mo. (Dec. 28, 2024) — It’s a little bittersweet news, beer and pizza fans. As the year winds down, so does Pizza Champ…In early 2025, Side Project Brewing will debut ‘Side Project Pizza,
Enter Side Project Brewing, the globally acclaimed St. Louis brewery with a knack for pairing its barrel-aged masterpieces with memorable dining experiences. In early 2025, Side Project will debut “Side Project Pizza,” a reimagined concept that promises to keep the pizza love alive—albeit with their signature touch.
A new slice of Maplewood’s dining scene
For those familiar with Side Project’s trio of Maplewood locations (The Brewery, The Cellar, and The Patio), this move makes perfect sense. The Patio, which currently shares space with Pizza Champ, has already become a beloved spot to enjoy craft beers alongside a piping-hot slice. With this change, Side Project plans to take over the kitchen entirely, led by Executive Chef Adam Altnether, to craft a new pizza menu that complements their beers.
“We are excited to grow the Side Project family of brands, particularly within the Maplewood neighborhood,” said Cory King, owner of Side Project Brewing. “Chris Kelling has done an incredible job with Pizza Champ, and we’re honored to carry forward his dedication to quality and creativity in this new chapter.”
More than just beer and pizza
For King and his team, this transition is about more than just swapping out signage. The new concept underscores Side Project’s vision of integrating exceptional food and beer experiences into a cohesive neighborhood hub. King noted the success of their food program at Side Project Brewery and the opportunity to expand that across the street near their other Maplewood venues.
“We’ve always seen our spaces as more than just places to drink beer,” King explained. “They’re community spaces—welcoming families, beer aficionados, and food lovers alike. We see Side Project Pizza as another way to strengthen that connection.”
What’s next?
As the team prepares for this new chapter, details about Side Project Pizza’s menu and opening date are still under wraps.
So, mark your calendars for Dec. 31—whether you want to bid farewell to Pizza Champ or simply soak up the last bit of its legendary crust. Then keep an eye on Side Project’s social media for updates as they prepare to serve up something fresh, hot, and exciting in the new year.
