Good News Brewing brings more good news to St. Louis with whiskey expansion

Good News Brewing continues to bring good news to the St. Louis beer and spirits community. Known for its community-driven approach and craft beer offerings, the brewery is now making a splash in the whiskey world with a carefully curated line of spirits.

From beer to bourbon: Why whiskey?

For co-owner Dan Tripp, the move into whiskey was a natural next step. As the craft beer industry has plateaued, craft distilleries are on the rise, offering new opportunities for creative expression. Tripp, a whiskey enthusiast himself, recognized the potential to bring a fresh and transparent approach to the whiskey market.

Rather than investing millions into distilling, Good News Brewing opted to source high-quality whiskeys from Midwest Grain Products (MGP), a renowned Indiana distillery. The result is a selection of five approachable and flavorful offerings:

  • 90-proof bourbon and rye
  • Barrel-strength versions of both
  • A premium 12-year rye

“Our goal is to make whiskey as approachable as our beer,” Tripp says. Priced between $34 and $99, the lineup offers something for casual drinkers and enthusiasts alike.

Transparency in craftsmanship

Unlike many brands that obscure their sourcing, Good News Brewing is upfront about its process. “We’re not distilling these ourselves,” Tripp explains. “We’re focused on selecting exceptional barrels and creating something unique through thoughtful finishes.”

The brewery is already experimenting with innovative barrel-aging techniques, cycling barrels through uses like aging bourbon, cider, and beer to develop complex flavor profiles.

Where to find it

Good News Brewing’s whiskeys are currently available at their taprooms in Defiance and Frenchtown, with plans for select retail availability in the future. The whiskeys are served straight or by the pour, with cocktails likely coming soon to new locations like Wildwood.

A commitment to community

As with their beer, Good News Brewing’s whiskey venture is about more than just the product. “We’re about creating gathering spaces,” Tripp says. “Whiskey adds another dimension to the experience we offer our customers.”

Whether it’s a pint of beer or a glass of whiskey, Good News Brewing continues to craft “good news” for the St. Louis community—one sip at a time.
