Today in beer, whiskey and wine around St. Louis – May 19

Tonight’s writing beer: APA from Morgan Street Brewery.
Tonight’s writing brewery t-shit: Main And Mill.

Here is what I found today that every beer and whiskey lover in St. Louis needs to know.

St. Louis Craft Beer Week Postponed

Not surprising, but the announcement came down today, that our favorite week of the year, is being postponed. And while no date was given for the return of STLCBW, it was announced that the organization was making a $2,000 donation to the Gateway Resilience Fund.

The Gateway Resilience Fund makes grants to support employees, essential contractors, and owners of small businesses in the St. Louis region who are experiencing a financial burden due to the coronavirus pandemic. As of April 22, 2,468 individuals or businesses have received over $1.3 million from the Gateway Resilience Fund.

UCBC Goes Hard Into Seltzer

… Urban Chestnut Brewing Co. is releasing its first Hard Seltzer in two unique flavors this week. Urban Seltzer is 90 calories, 4.0 percent ABV, gluten-free, under 2g of carbs, and available in two varieties: Passion Fruit & Citra Hops and Lime & Salt.

Both flavors of UCBC’s Hard Seltzer will be available in a combo-12-pack of 12 oz. cans at grocery stores and beer retailers in the greater St. Louis bi-state area, beginning May 19.

“Hard Seltzers are not going away. They are a new path for us as a brewery, so we really wanted to develop the brand together with our customers. We tweaked the recipes based on the survey-takers’
comments, and chose the brand name based on their preferences,” said Brewmaster Florian Kuplent.

Urban Chestnut, like most breweries and restaurants, has experienced a reduction in operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they wanted to move forward with their initial planned release of the Urban Seltzer variety pack before Memorial Day weekend.

“With the unofficial start of summer occurring on Memorial Day weekend, it’s a fun, new way for us to kick the summer off,” remarked Chris Gorman, UCBC Sales Director.

Wine, BBQ and Billy

… Is it really Memorial Day Weekend? Crap, well celebrate by sipping wine by the lake at Cedar Lake Cellars in Wright City. Live music, delicious Sugarfire BBQ from our Smokehouse and more! The music lineup features St. Louis legend Billy Peek, Almost Famous, Big Rain, and more! Check out the full weekend schedule below.

Curb Side Update

… Your friends at Main And Mill have recognized that despite the pandemic, good beer needs a home. Which is why a drive to Festus is order. Imperial Breakfast Stout bottles now now available for curbside…while they last!! Plenty of new cans to grab as well. 636-543-3031 to order!

… Your friends at Perennial are making this beer available for pick up tomorrow- Mango Drawing Sight!

Mango Drawing Sight is the first fruited varietal in their Hazy Lite series. Similar to the ethos of the original, they let the Mango accentuate the hops, and still lie within balance thanks to a silky malt bill.

… Apparently 4 Hands has turned one of my favorite brews into a seltzer…. What did I miss?

… that’s all for now. Hope you found this useful. More tomorrow.
