For the week of March 13
BEER NAME: sunkân treasure
STYLE: Gose
ABV: 7%
IBU: 1
BREWERY:Â Alpha Brewing Company
BEER ADVOCATE RATING: âÂ
RATE BEER RATING: â
BREWERY COMMENTS: This gosé was brewed using a wild fermentation technique and aged in American Gin Barrels for 2 months. Tart, funky, lemony.
drinkMObeer COMMENTS (Andrew): A solid, seemingly straight forward gose. Pouring a peach gold color with a good white head that dissipates to thin to no lacing. A sleepy aroma provides little more than light lemony, sour scent. Taste hits as expected with sourness coating the tongue from the back and cut by its salinity before the sour reaches the tip of tongue. Finishes dry with tart, salty notes lingering on the tongue.
BEER NAME: Cocoa Cow Tao
STYLE: Stout
ABV: 5%
IBU: 30
BREWERY:Â Urban Chestnut Brewing Company
BEER ADVOCATE RATING: âÂ
RATE BEER RATING: â
BREWERY COMMENTS: Tao- Chinese for âpathâ or âwayâ. Should you follow the Cocoa CowTao of UCBC it will guide you to a place of confectionary, bovinic, and zymurgic fusion, where you will find fulfillment through the exquisite wisdom of Chocolate Milk Stout.
drinkMObeer COMMENTS (Tim): With Urban Chestnutâs Wolpertinger happening today, it only makes sense to review one of their brews. The ultimate chocolate milk for an adult. Super smooth, dark and full of chocolate goodness. From nose to finish this is one of my favorite winter time brews. Pairs well with almost anything.
BEER NAME: Brew Cocky
STYLE: Imperial IPA
ABV: 9.3%
IBU: 116
BREWERY:Â 2nd Shift Brewing
BEER ADVOCATE RATING: 87Â
RATE BEER RATING: 96
BREWERY COMMENTS: Brew Cocky is another IPA  I came up with that is brewed with loads and loads of Falconers Flight Hops that we use in an inappropriate, gratuitous manner and makes them just explode in your face.
drinkMObeer COMMENTS (Chris): As 2nd Shiftâs explanation of Brew Cocky states, there is definitely a hop explosion with this beer. Pours a hazy copper with a thick white head. The aroma is tropical fruity deliciousness. Taste-wise I picked up citrus on the frontend with a power punch of bitterness in the middle and a nice sweet almost boozy finish. Prost!
BEER NAME: Belgian DubbelÂ
STYLE: Belgian Dubbel
ABV: 7%
IBU: 20
BREWERY:Â Trailhead Brewing Company
BEER ADVOCATE RATING: âÂ
RATE BEER RATING:Â â
BREWERY COMMENTS: Complex, rich malty sweetness. Moderate fruity esters include light clove and spice, peppery, rose-like and perfumy notes. Full bodied with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. ABV 7% IBU 20
drinkMObeer COMMENTS (Andrew): Sometimes when you stick your nose where it âdonât belongâ bad things happen. But, when I stuck my nose in this pint glass,f great things happened. I was hit by an epic gust of dark, fruity, somewhat boozy esters on this ruby-bronze beauty featuring a good, off white head that gives way to good lacing. With a perfect medium-full mouthfeel, this true to style, balanced classic coats the tongue in coppery, malty flavor with hints of caramel and features slight hop backbone that drops out before finish. This brew finishes smooth with slight dark esters and caramel maltiness lingering.
BEER NAME: Fallen FlagÂ
STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 7.2%
IBU: 85
BREWERY: Narrow Gauge Brewing Company
BEER ADVOCATE RATING: âÂ
RATE BEER RATING:Â â
BREWERY COMMENTS: American IPA Brewed with Citra and Mosaic hops.
drinkMObeer COMMENTS (Andrew): Some say this IPA should be classified as a âNortheastern IPAâ but I couldnât care less how itâs classified, because this slightly hazy, straw colored beauty is just awesome. The Citra, Mosaic and Falconerâs Flight hop additions provide the drinker with a bright, tropical, mango and lemon scented adventure sure to impress. The bright mango and pineapple flavors are sweet and bright as the nose suggests. The uniqueness of this IPA is the lack of the bitterness associated with such a bouquet of hop flavors, which allows the smooth, juiciness of these fruity hops to shine. This soon to open brewery is on the âright trackâ with this IPA!
BEER NAME: Horchata Chocolate Milk StoutÂ
STYLE: Milk / Sweet Stout
ABV: 5.5%
IBU: NA
BREWERY:Â 4 Hands Brewing Company
BEER ADVOCATE RATING: âÂ
RATE BEER RATING:Â 94
BREWERY COMMENTS: Chocolate Milk Stout with vanilla and cinnamon.
drinkMObeer COMMENTS (Tim): Did someone say dessert beer? Iâd pair it with chocoloate cake if given the opportunity. Â The nose of this beer screamed vanilla. Â After first taste even more vanilla and then came the cinnamon at the end to give it a good finish. Â This beer was part of the 4 Hands Milk Stout gift pack Iâcome to look forward to the past last couple of years.
