St. Louis, ready your palates. The St. Louis Bourbon Festival is back this Friday, and it’s bigger than ever. More than 500 bourbons, whiskeys, ryes, and scotches will be poured, filling Cherokee Street and the historic Lemp Grand Hall with enough spirits to make any whiskey lover’s heart race.
But this festival isn’t just about sipping. It’s about community, discovery, and yes — a little strategy.
What Makes a Bourbon Festival Special
“This is not a cocktail party,” says Drew Chostner, co-founder of the St. Louis Bourbon Society. “A Whiskey or Bourbon festival is a chance to try a variety of different brands all in one event. The category has exploded with so many new brands, no one would buy them all to just try them. Enthusiasts can come to a festival and pick which brands they’ve been seeking out and try a sample before making a decision to buy at a store.”
Think beer fest — but with whiskey tasters instead of pint glasses. That’s the vibe.
What’s New This Year
-
Cocktail Competition: For the first time, bartenders and mixologists will face off live, creating inventive cocktails right in front of the crowd.
-
Expanded Footprint: The festival now stretches across four city blocks, mixing indoor and outdoor spaces, plus secret tasting rooms tucked into historic Cherokee Street buildings.
-
VIP Lounges: Step inside the Lemp Mansion for exclusive pours, rare releases, and one-on-one time with distillers and brand ambassadors.
And yes, the cigar patios return — perfect for those who like their smoke paired with a pour.
How to Navigate Like a Pro
Chostner’s first piece of advice: have a plan.
“We suggest that you check out our festival vendor guide and map. You can visit our website and download the entire layout and create a plan ahead of time. Start marking the ones that you are most interested in checking out or trying.”
But don’t just circle names — think strategy:
-
Wear comfortable shoes. Four blocks, multiple venues — you’ll get your steps in.
-
Eat and hydrate. Over 4,000 bottles of water will be handed out. Liquid Death will be back, and you’ll find coffee and tea from Mud House.
-
Food Truck Row. Five trucks will be ready, plus you can prepurchase the legendary Lemp’s Famous Fried Chicken Dinner — two pieces of fried chicken with sides, picked up right at Lemp Mansion.
-
Pace yourself. Even tasters add up. Festivals are marathons, not sprints.
-
Get a ride. Parking is scarce. Uber or Lyft is your safest option.

Why Go
The bourbon is the hook, but the festival is about more than spirits. Expect live music, buskers, a silent auction, and the energy of thousands of fellow whiskey lovers celebrating together.
And every ticket matters — a portion of proceeds goes to Code 3 Response for First Responders, adding a charitable pour of goodwill into every glass.
Final Sip
Bourbon, fellowship, and fall in St. Louis — it’s a hard combination to beat. With locals like StilL 630, Pinckney Bend, Stumpy’s, and Wood Hat sharing the spotlight alongside big-name brands, this year’s Bourbon Festival promises to be the city’s biggest and boldest pour yet.
So make your plan, wear your comfy shoes, and get ready to raise a glass.
