Today in St. Louis drinking | May 29

Here is what I found today that every beer and whiskey lover in St. Louis needs to know.

My Crazy Hazy World

I am a huge fan of News England Style IPAs, or hazy beers and today it appears to be Christmas in May.

… I’m literally working on an article right now about the 6 beers I plan on bringing back into my life this summer, and one of them is back just in time. 2nd Shift just alerted us that cans of Little Big Hop is fresh off the canning line, and available for contactless curbside pickup till 6 p.m.

This was the first NEIPA that I found brewed locally. I was introduced to it, during a tasting session explaining the differences between this style and regular IPAs. The speaker told us to focus on the back of your tongue. Once I did that, the flavor profiles of each became that much clearer to me.

Little Big Hop is full of rich hop flavors and pleasant aromas and at under 5.0% ABV, you will be able to enjoy multiple cans. 2nd Shift describes this beer as “stupid good” and they’re right. It’s one of the more balanced NEIPAs you’ll find.

Introducing the Hazy IPA Cube

… Seriously, is anyone working harder than 4 Hands Brewing to keep us interested? Today, they announced that three of my favorites are now being sold together as part of the Hazy IPA Cube.

Each cube contains 3 of each; Contact High Hazy, Super Flare, and Scale of Complexity Experimental Hope. This 9 pack is available for curbside pick-up. Order online at our website www.4handsbrewery.com.

Quit Whinin’ About No Wine

… Not everyone in my house is all in on beer, so I’m often reminded that I need to include wine in this column, because “WINE rules.” Okay, well here’ some good info. Naked Wines is now delivering to Missouri. And they’re running a special, 6 bottles of rave review wines worth over $120, now only $34.99. You can check it out and order online..

Brewery T-shirts Rule

I have over 30 brewery t-shirts, and frankly, it’s rare when I’m not wearing one. I’m also planning an article on them, and why we love them so. With that in mind, selling t-shirts is an easy way for our struggling brewing friends to generate much-needed revenue to stay in business and save jobs. Each day, I’ll share any t-shirt info I can find.

Center Ice Brewery is launching a pre-sale this week for the newest Center Ice tees, including free shipping. These are all the ultra-soft, Bella+Canvas t-shirts. The pre-sale ends Friday at midnight.

… Brewery hats are awesome too, and I own a bunch as well. Today, Earthbound Beer announced it’s offering two limited edition hats, ready to cover your noggin. The first is a minor league baseball-style embroidered flatbills.  There are only 35 of these available.

Flatbills not your style? More of a Canadian tuxedo person? They have denim dad-hats with their famous Party Meteor art! Celebrate your love of denim, hot dogs and extraterrestrial bombardment all at once! Both are available online.

Support Your Local Bottle Shop

… Recently a fellow Reddit user asked about some of the best liquor stores that featured a good selection of local beers. That reminded me that if even though we want to support our local breweries, we need to think about the locally owned bottle shops as well. Each day, I’ll feature one, with a smattering of what they’re offering and links to their online stores.

gezellig in The Grove neighborhood is open for curbside pickup and delivery! You can order beer, wine, seltzers, bottled cocktails, and more at their online store. And, they’re holding an exclusive raffle to win a BCS 2019 Rittenhouse Rye! All proceeds go to the staff. Raffle ticket purchases end this Saturday, May 30th at 8 pm and we will pick the winner on Wednesday, June 3rd! $5.00 a ticket, no limit on tickets!
