Great whiskey tasting opportunities this week at Wine & Cheese Place

There will be some great opportunities to taste some very extraordinary and pricey whiskey’s this week at the esteemed Wine and Cheese Place, as part of their ongoing 35th-anniversary celebration.  Both of these tastings will be held at their Clayton location.

Samaroli Tasting | Tuesday, October 3 | 5 p.m to 7 p.m.
I was not familiar with Samaroli, so I did some digging and discovered that it’s been around as long as I have.  Founded in 1968, Samaroli is now one of the last remaining Italian whiskey bottlers. Its founder, Silvano Samaroli was responsible for legendary bottlings, including a highly-prized 1966 Bowmore.

Samaroli owner Antonio Bleve will be on hand to talk about his whiskey and answer your questions.

Kavalan Whisky Tasting | Thursday, October 5 | 5 p.m to 7 p.m.

Kavalan is also one I’ve never tried, although I have heard of it. Established in 2005, Kavalan is Taiwan’s first whisky maker and the nation’s only family-owned whisky distillery. Kavalan takes the old name of Yilan county where the distillery is located in northeastern Taiwan.  The pure water and fresh air make this part of the subtropical island the ideal environment for the production of whisky.

  • Kavalan ex-Bourbon Oak Whisky….$109.99
Kavalan ex-Bourbon Oak dilutes Solist ex-Bourbon with Kavalan spring water to 46% strength. It is incredibly smooth with a soft sweetness, losing the harshness and the alcohol edge and lingering over those unique flavors. It is clean and fresh tropical fruitiness with pleasant vanilla, coconut, and spices.

  • Kavalan Vinho Barrique Cask Strength…$229.99
2015 Best Single Malt in the world!!
Kavalan Vinho is fully matured in used American oak wine barrels that have been stripped, then toasted to convert the wine flavors into a complex fruit background, and finally re-charred in a way that brings out vanilla notes from the whisky and wood. Vinho Barrique is a single cask, single malt whisky bottled by hand at the distillery without any vatting, finish, chill filtration or reduction.
