Along Interstate 70, just a short drive from the St. Charles area, sits the town of Wright City, Missouri. Now, this isn’t a place that you would give much thought to or even consider as a place to pick as a destination, but they offer a unique country escape that may just pull you in. Cedar Lake Cellars sits on 172 acres of land that was once known as Schreckengast Farm. Carl Bolm purchased this acreage and began restoring the 1930’s buildings with the dream of creating a premier event center. Out of that dream has grown Cedar Lake Cellars, which is both a wine destination and event venue.

VonDeVorePhoto_561The grounds of Cedar Lake are well maintained and are both beautiful and rustic; yet they have an upscale elegance to them as well. I was hesitant to visit Cedar Lake because I had a preconceived notion of what to expect. They had a semi upscale reputation that made me feel like it would be all flash and little substance. Once I decided to give it a try, I actually found it to be both relaxing and accommodating. The vast land allows the visitor to spread out and find seclusion if you wish, or to be in the midst of the throng of people, if that’s what you prefer as well.

Cedar-Lake4The selection of beer and wine is pretty extensive at Cedar Lake. They offer wine selections from all over the world, as well as their own label of offerings. They have both local and non-local wine selections that are made under the Cedar Lake banner. As a result of all they have, you are sure to find something that fits your pallet regardless of what you enjoy. For me, I really enjoyed both the Norton and their blush that is called Pink Sunset. I feel like these are enjoyable wines that most folks will like.
