Schlafly’s Stout Bout returns with two new beers and the return of an old favorite

The stout season has officially begun. Which means one of the most popular variety packs from Schlafly is ready to return. Stout Bout, is the annual release of four of the brewery’s selected stouts.

The Stout Bout name is a play on the boxing term for a match, and the “winning” selections featured in the sampler are determined by the crowd favorites at Schlafly’s annual Stout and Oyster Festival.

The festival is for both beer lovers who love oysters and oyster lovers who also love beer. The brewery flies in 80,000 oysters and 25 shuckers from both coasts for one of the largest oyster festivals in the country. To make all those oyster lover’s happy, Schlafly brews ten specialty stouts which are served and then graded for the purpose of making the Stout Bout.

This year’s big winners are The Dulce de Leche (6.5%) and Mango Ancho (5.7%). Both will join the returning Mexican Chocolate Stout (6.2%), as well as the once-retired brew, Raspberry Coffee Stout (5.7%) in this year’s sampler pack.

“People really look forward to seeing what flavors will make the pack every year,” says Founding Brewer Stephen Hale. “We listen to our consumer requests, and Stout & Oyster Festival is a fun way to test out new stouts from our creative brewing team. Festival attendees get to be a part of the process to help us curate what stouts make the pack, and now, they get to enjoy them again in the Stout Bout.”

To be a part of deciding next year’s Stout Bout pack, visit Schlafly’s Stout & Oyster Festival at the Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust St.) on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23.

The sampler pack will be available in the Schlafly brewpubs on Friday, November 23 and at your favorite beer shop and grocery store on Monday, November 26. Be ready to drop $13.99 for the sampler.
