2nd Shifts’ ‘Yippie Rye Yay’ doesn’t pay tribute to the Christmas movie you’re thinking it should

If you don’t like brew or booze, you might find my Twitter feed boring.  I don’t have a personal feed, just a Drink314 feed, which I invite you to follow if you’re inclined.  But that said, very few Tweets that cross my feed make me do a double take, until this one the other day.

Okay, the real reason I noticed this Tweet was because it was shared with me by a fan of the movie ‘Love Actually,’ a movie, I never quite ‘got.’  I’ve tried, believe me, but it never quite took.  Nevertheless, I understand that it is one of our generations best Christmas movies, but I never really gave a crap until now.  Now that this movie finally has a beer brewed in its honor. NOW, the beer is relevant.

I wanted to know more about the beer as well as when it would be available.

The back story is a bit of an inside joke.

“For the past few years, I loved to crow about Die Hard being the best Christmas movie of all time,” said 2nd Shifts’ Michael Sweeny.  “A lot of my friends are (no pun intended) “die-hard” Love Actually fans and I wanted to give them a little jab.”

As for the beer, Sweeny and 2nd Shift, have come to really appreciate the New England IPA trend but wanted to try something a bit more old school.

“Haven’t seen too many Rye IPAs as of recent, so I wanted to bring one back. And you can’t make an old-school beer without old-school hops, so it has a generous portion of Cascade and Centennial.”

We can all get our first taste of Yippie Rye Yay | 6% ABV |,65 IBUs, this Thursday, December 28th at the taproom.  See you there.
